The Heaviest Is At The Beginning

SPRING | FEBRUARY | The Heaviest Is At The Beginning

Spring warmth makes the snow
Heaviest to move, shovel by shovel
Slowly this beginning
From the hibernation of winter
To the quickening of spring
An inertia kind of shift that
Reveals unused muscles, creaking bones
And asks our imagination to lighten the load
The heaviness will shape us even as it melts away
