The Rhythm of Clay

I once heard an Indigenous tribal flutist talk about making one of his most beloved flutes from a reed. He was instructed in a traditional and ancestral practice to make his flute using the ratios of his own body for measurements. In this way, the flute would have a completely unique sound—the sound of his own body. In this way, I hope to form a relationship with the clay—in rhythm with my own body.

A room of one’s own—every artist’s threshold into the mystery of the imagination and unseen realms. A place to enter wondrous stillness where all creation emerges.

Anne Marie’s home studio is a deeply nourishing womb space where she listens deeply, writes, processes her photography, weaves, imagines, plays with clay, and sips tea.
